Joshua Millais has worked as a professional photographer for over 15 years. He developed a love of photography at his Secondary School, King Alfred’s in North London. However, it wasn’t until his late 20’s that he realized his dream of becoming a professional photographer after studying under the great Portrait Photographer Jorge Lewinksi.
He went on to assist London based commercial photographers - Gareth McCarthy, Lawrence Lawry, George Kavanagh and Dudley Reed. Here he gained experience in the production of High Profile Advertising, Design, Music Business and Editorial Photography.
Joshua has specialised in corporate work ranging from annual reports, portraits and events. Joshua was commissioned by the law firm Macfarlanes to take the portraits of all their partners for marketing purposes as well as their website. He has photographed artworks commissioned by London Underground at various tube stations for the Olympic Bid and Celebrations. He also photographed the Lance Armstrong Dinner for Investec Private Bank at Old Billingsgate attended by 400 of their clients.
Joshua takes portraits of artists at work and was responsible for photographing all the Art Works for the London Underground/Bloomberg Art Tube O1Project. This included works by Damien Hirst, Yoko Ono, Gavin Turke and Fiona Banner. He works with sculptors Nic Fiddian-Green and Luke Dickenson and has a close relationship with the actor’s agency Big Management taking Head Shots of all their clients for Spotlight.
Joshua has worked for many publications including Harpers and Queen, House and Gardens, Sunday Times Style, Telegraph, Financial Times, Daily Mail, Mail on Sunday, Evening Standard, Hello and Hola!, Pop Rocky and Smash Hits.
Joshua excels at listening and understanding his client's requirements. This combined with his love of people has made him a popular Wedding and Event photographer.
Joshua comes from a line of fine artists starting with Sir John Everett Millais (pre-Raphaelite painter), JG Millais (painter and naturalist) and his grandfather Raoul H. Millais (a leading sporting painter and draftsman). His father Hugh Millais is an Interior Designer and has always maintained that Joshua has a complete understanding of all things visual.
